​Fisherman’s Slope, SheringhamNorfolk is a beautiful county with miles of unspoilt coastline, stunning countryside and The Norfolk Broads to explore, making it the ideal holiday destination. In particular, North Norfolk is renowned for its spectacular coastline, fantastic wildlife, glorious beaches, seaside communities and a beautiful hinterland of rolling countryside and picturesque market towns and villages. The area must be the birdwatching capital of the UK, and you can even take a boat trip to see the seal colony from nearby Blakeney Point or Morston.

 

On your doorstep, the seaside town of Sheringham appeals to all ages, making it a perfect holiday destination. Originally a North Norfolk fishing village, there is still a small fishing community landing the daily catch. Over the years Sheringham has expanded into a thriving town with many diverse shops, places to eat and places to visit. The sandy beaches at Sheringham hold the European Blue Flag award for cleanliness which it has held for many years.

 

​North Norfolk RailwaySheringham hosts numerous regular events throughout the year including the Cromer and Sheringham Crab and Lobster Festival in May, the Potty Morris Dancing Festival in July, the Sheringham Carnival in August and the North Norfolk Railway’s increasingly popular 1940s weekend in September. Sheringham is also home to the North Norfolk Railway, which runs steam and diesel trains along the ‘Poppy Line’, a five mile stretch of railway with unrivalled views to the coast, linking the towns of Sheringham and Holt. It is also home to Sheringham Golf Club, a superb 18-hole links golf course, with its cliff top layout and panoramic views to Blakeney Point it is consistently voted one of the top 100 golf courses in England.

 

A few miles inland is the Georgian market town of Holt, with sumptuous cafes, art galleries and refreshingly independent gift shops. Or in the opposite direction is the seaside town of Cromer which has its own Victorian pier stretching proudly out to sea, hosting many shows along with its own Summer and Christmas Spectaculars.

 

​Upton Broad, NorfolkA little further afield (approx. 15 miles by road, 30 minutes drive), The Norfolk Broads, known as ‘Britain’s magical waterland’, has over 125 miles of navigable lock-free waterways set in beautiful countryside, with big skies and sparkling landscape. The UK’s largest nationally protected wetland, the Broads are a fragile wetland of international importance, with rare wildlife such as the huge swallowtail butterfly and the booming bittern. It’s the perfect location for activities such as sailing, motor-boating, canoeing, fishing, walking and cycling.

 

Or discover the Historic City of Norwich (approx. 25 miles by road, 50 minutes drive), with its magnificent cathedral and castle, a fantastic city of heritage, culture and shopping.

 

National Trust (NT) properties and historic houses in the local area include NT Sheringham Park (designed by Humphry Repton and famous for its rhododendrons and azaleas), NT Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate, and NT Blickling Hall and Gardens. HM The Queen’s own Norfolk retreat, The Sandringham Estate, along with the privately owned Holkham Hall Estate, are also open to the public and delightful locations to discover. All are within easy reach by road or bus (a Coasthopper public bus runs regular services along the coast from Cromer-Sheringham as far as Hunstanton and back).
